Red Hot Chili Peppers working with Justice on new album?

Red Hot Chili Peppers working with Justice on new album?

Aren’t the Red Hot Chili Peppers supposed to be on an extended hiatus?

If a recent report in The Sun turns out to be true, then the band is on anything but a break…

THE heavily funky RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS are set to take a huge gamble with their new album by roping in French dance music duo JUSTICE to produce it.

And that’s about it. No sources, no quotes.

Some quick investigation reveals that the origin of this rumor resulted from former Daft Punk producer Busy P (Pedro Winter). During an interview with Data Transmission, the head of Ed Banger records noted that frontman Anthony Kiedis is not only a big fan of Justice, but has also tapped the duo to produce the band’s next album.

Of course, as alluded too, all this comes in the wake of recent comments from Kiedis, which among anythings, noted that the band is “disbanded for the moment.” So the timing of this new news is a bit strange.

However, the "hiatus" status came as a bit of a surprise considering in February, drummer Chad Smith was quoted as saying the band could begin recording new music by September.

In other words, just because the interview with Anthony Kiedis occurred in May doesn’t necessarily mean that the band agreed to take a break begining at that time. The Chili Peppers concluded touring in support of Stadium Arcadium with their appearance at last year’s Reading and Leeds Festival, potentially meaning that the band could have already been on a break for quite a while. So perhaps a return to the studio in September isn’t all that much of a stretch?

Just speculation…

  1. That is exactly what that interview stated. People just read it wrong. If you go back and look at it, it says that they where taking a break after the end of the tour. So that means last summer, which means it’s been about a year now. Which means september is just about right for them to start work on a new album.

  2. seems like good news, except for The Sun calling a band out of ideas working with some progressive funk geniuses as “a huge gamble”. Seems like its gonna produce some likeable pop/rack/funk tunes for sure, and if Justice work as hard on this as their debut then the Peppers might even score another classic album.

  3. To be starting on their new album in September sounds about pefect. I love the fact that Anthony has had a child and he is spending time with him. Anthony is actually creating time with his family. It’s unhealthy to just write songs for years and years and years. The whole band needs their face and they need the time to do their own thing. You’ll find that when they get together to write new songs for their new album it’ll come to them alot quicker as they can write songs that have revolved around what they’ve done during their break. I will be so excited when their new album is out ans they go on tour to Australia.

  4. And I liked, will be looking at your site.
